A Cross-Platform Strategy Planned to Connect with the Community on Race Day

In the lead-up to the race, The Boston Globe will publish stories, guides, and other useful information to help locals and tourists make the most of the historic event, along with tips on how to navigate the city. On Marathon Monday, readers can expect wall-to-wall coverage of the race itself, plus a live blog with updates from journalists stationed on the ground along the race course. This year, the Globe team also curated an upbeat Spotify playlist of motivating running songs for runners and non-runners alike to download and enjoy.
The B-Side newsletter will offer features on what marathoners are listening to, a guide to Marathon weekend, along with a guide to and a recap of Marathon Monday. B-Side will also share videos on social media that delve into the history of Heartbreak Hill and showcase the best signs from the race.
Boston.com’s “Why I’m Running” series gives Boston Marathon athletes a platform to share their inspiring stories. The series has already received over 100 submissions and publishes three stories per day, as well as being featured in a pop-up newsletter focused on the event.
Through a partnership with Bank of America, Studio B produced a special “Beyond the Finish Line” magazine featuring runners who are giving back in powerful ways to organizations like Team Hoyt and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
“Our comprehensive coverage of the Boston Marathon exemplifies our unwavering commitment to the Boston community,” said Linda Henry, CEO of Boston Globe Media. “Each year, we have been proud to provide in-depth, multi-faceted storytelling that captures the heart and soul of this world-renowned event and its profound impact on the region. From the elite athletes competing for victory, to the everyday runners striving for personal bests, and the volunteers and sponsors who support them, we plan to showcase a collage of unique stories that make the Boston Marathon such a big part of our city.”
